Send ePrescriptions

Generate a token and send the ePrescription to the ETP service (eRx) instead of printing paper prescriptions.

About this task

When you send an ePrescription, you know immediately whether the prescription has been successfully sent to the ETP service (eRx).

Procedure

To send an ePrescription to the ETP service (eRx):
  1. Complete the prescription details. For more information, see Write Prescriptions.
  2. Click Save & Send.
  3. In the Sending prescription window, select the delivery details:
    • In the Send to patient via field, select the delivery method for the ePrescription, either SMS, Email or Printed token.
      • For SMS, in the Select or add a phone number field, select a phone number from the list taken from the patient details or enter a new phone number.
        Example Send ePrescription via SMS
      • For Email, in the Email address field, select an email address from the list taken from the patient details or enter a new email address for the patient or pharmacy. If you enter a new address, to add it as one of the two addresses for a patient in patient demographics, set Add email to patient file.

Results

The status of the transmission to the ETP service is displayed in the Actions list.
Example eScripts in active consult

The phone number or address to which the token is sent is stored.

The ePrescription may have one of the following statuses:
  • Send in progress - the ePrescription is being sent to the ETP service.
  • Send failed - transmission to the ETP service failed. Try to resend the ePrescription or print the token. ePrescriptions that are not successfully sent or printed are not saved when the consult is ended and a cancellation is sent to the ETP service.

If the electronic prescription could not be sent because the prescription delivery service was unavailable, a timeout error is displayed and the prescription is cancelled.

  • Send successful - the ePrescription was successfully sent to the ETP service.
  • Resent successful - the ePrescription was successfully reissued.
For successful ePrescriptions, patients receive the following communication from the ETP service:
  • If emailed, an email from noreply@emailprescription.com.au with the subject of Your Electronic Prescription for each medication. For example:
    Example emailed ePrescription
  • If sent by SMS, a text message from eScript SMS for each medication, with a link to the ePrescription. For example:
