Create a Pathology Request

Practitioners can initiate a pathology test request for a patient during their consultation.

About this task

Create a pathology request in the Consult panel.

Procedure

To create a pathology request:
  1. From the PatientPatient Search or Patient Queue iconPatient Queue, select a patient and click Consult buttonConsult.
  2. In the Consult panel, click Pathology iconPathology.
  3. In the Pathology Request panel, record the tests required.

    1. In the Test(s) required field, start typing the test name or abbreviation. A list of matching available tests are displayed.
      If the test required is not listed, try an alternative name. You may add a new test request but it may not be recognised by the pathology provider. To add a test request:
      1. Enter a new test request.
      2. Select Add test.
      3. Click Yes, Add to Request.

        The requested test is displayed as an Warning iconUnrecognised test in the Pathology iconPathology Request panel.

    2. Select the required test or tests from the list.
    3. If required, add tests to your list of favourites:
      1. Click Save above test(s) as a favourite.
      2. In the Name of favourite field, enter the name you want to use to identify the group of tests.
      3. Click Save.
      Tip:
      To display information about the tests included in a test group, hover your mouse over an Information iconInformation icon next to the favourite name.
  4. If required, in the Clinical notes field, add any clinical notes.
  5. In the Copy report to field, start typing the name of any HCP to whom you want to send a copy of the report and select them from the list.
    Tip:
    If the required HCP is not listed, to add them to the address book, click Add iconAdd new address. For more information, see Add New Addresses.
  6. From the Requested date calendar, select the date on which the request was made.
  7. If required, set Request is urgent.
    Tip:
    The practice's phone and fax number are printed on the request.
  8. From the Pathology Providers list, select the required pathology provider.

    To view more providers, select Choose other provider > Choose pathology provider > Pathology provider list and select the required provider.
  9. To print the request, click Print.

Results

A preview of the request is displayed and an entry is added to the Actions section of the Consult Panel.
If you added a test to your list of favourites, the test group is listed in the Favourites test groupFavourites panel on the right. The list is sorted alphabetically. For more information about managing favourites, see Edit and Delete Pathology Favourites.
