Before you administer an immunisation to a patient, check the immunisations that have already been administered on the AIR and the immunisations due.

- Health Summary
  Information entered by a practitioner during a consult is added to a patient's Health Summary.
- Consultations
  Record details of a clinical consultation in the Consult panel of the patient's record.
- Patient Timeline
  A summary of the patient's clinical history is displayed in the Patient Timeline.
- Medications
  Helix uses the MDref medications database provided by AusDI.
- Immunisations
  Before you administer an immunisation to a patient, check the immunisations that have already been administered on the AIR and the immunisations due.
  - Record a Scheduled Immunisation
    Record an immunisation that was scheduled for a patient in their patient record.
  - Record an Ad-hoc Immunisation
    After an unscheduled vaccine has been administered, it must be recorded in Helix.

    Select one of a list of alternative vaccines that are available for an immunisation.

    Immunisations recorded in Helix are automatically uploaded to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).

  Record metabolic, pathology and ECG measurements and other assessments in the patient's record as required.

  A Recall is a type of flag recorded against a patient's record that informs practitioners and practice staff of when the patient is due to return to the practice.

  During a consult, add a request for a nurse to complete a nursing action.
- Obstetrics
  Record obstetrics information on the Obstetrics panel.
- Investigations
  Investigations can be requested by a practitioner from within a patient's clinical record.
- Tasks
  The tasks module allows users to send messages (tasks) to other users throughout the medical centre.

  Securely upload a patient's health data to their My Health Record.

Select an Alternative Vaccine

Select one of a list of alternative vaccines that are available for an immunisation.

About this task

If an alternative vaccine is available, the Alternatives button is enabled.

Alternative vaccines can be displayed as a single option or in groups:

Group 1 can contain an exact match for the entire disease group.
Group 2 can contain an exact match for each single disease in the immunisation but which might not cover all diseases in the group.
Group 3 can contain subsets of the original group of diseases, where at least two of the original group can be addressed by another vaccine.

Procedure

To select an alternative vaccine:

To view any alternative vaccines that are available, in the Immunisation panel, click Alternatives.
Select the required alternative vaccines.

Tip: Select one vaccine from group 1, or one or more from groups 2 and 3.
Click Record immunisation for the selected vaccine.

Results

For scheduled immunisations, you must record immunisations for the remaining diseases to complete the scheduled immunisation. If an alternative is recorded for only some of the diseases in the immunisation, when Save is selected in the Record Immunisation panel, the Immunisation panel opens again and displays:

The remaining diseases for which a vaccine has not yet been administered.
The original recommended immunisation.
