Maintain Patient Records
To maintain the integrity of your patient database you should merge duplicate patient records and when a patient dies, mark them as deceased.

- Create New Patient Records
  When a new patient joins your health service, create a new patient record.
- Edit Patient Records
  Edit contact details, identification numbers, payer details, carer details, and patient preferences settings in a patient's record.
- Maintain Patient Records
  To maintain the integrity of your patient database you should merge duplicate patient records and when a patient dies, mark them as deceased.
  - Patient Status
    Manage the status of patients so that you can more easily find active patients, and accurately report patient information.
    - Set Patient Status Automatically
      By default, patient records remain active indefinitely. Set rules for your health service to automatically make records inactive in certain circumstances.
    - Set Patient Status Manually
      Change the status of an individual patient manually if required.
    - Find Inactive Patients
      Inactive patients do not appear in search results by default.
    - Patient Status Prompts
      If inactive patient records are used, you are prompted to reactivate the patient.
  - Duplicate Patient Records
    Ideally, you should not create duplicate patient records. However, if you do, link the records.
  - Extract Patient Records
    Extract a copy of a patient record when you need to hand the patient over to another clinician, for example, during medical evacuation; to print documents for medicolegal matters; or if a patient leaves your practice and needs a copy of their patient record.
- Patient Reports
  Generate reports about your patients based on common criteria such as age, SNAP status, conditions and medications using Patient reports.

Patient Status

Manage the status of patients so that you can more easily find active patients, and accurately report patient information.

Manage inactive patients, set rules for what constitutes an inactive patient, and change the status of patients.

Table 1. Patient Status
Status	Descriptions
Active	No date of death recorded. Age is not greater than 130 years. It is not expired.
Deceased	Date of death present on the record, but has not yet been matched with Fact of Death Data (FoDD) from Births, Deaths and Marriages Registries. Age is not greater than 130 years.
Retired	Date of death present on the record, and either: Also matched with FoDD. It has reached an age of 130 years (verified IHI records only).
Expired	Provisional, and there has been no activity on the record for 90 days, or where it is unverified and has reached an age of 130 years.
Resolved	The record has been linked with another record when a provisional record or duplicate record were resolved, or end-dated as part of the replica resolution process.
